How to measure your dog for the perfect fit
Loyal Teal · September 13, 2026 · 1 min read
Getting the right fit is the difference between a sweater your dog loves and one that ends up in the closet. Here's the three-measurement method we use for every Loyal Teal pattern.
What you'll need
- A soft measuring tape (a string + ruler works too)
- Treats. Non-negotiable.
- A dog standing on all fours
The three measurements
1. Neck
Measure around the base of the neck, where a collar naturally sits. Leave room for two fingers under the tape — snug, not tight.
2. Chest (the important one)
Measure the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs. This is the number that decides your size — when in doubt, size up.
3. Back length
From the base of the neck (between the shoulder blades) to the base of the tail. Skip the tail itself.
Match it to the size chart
| Size | Chest | Back |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 30–36 cm | 25 cm |
| S | 36–43 cm | 30 cm |
| M | 43–53 cm | 38 cm |
| L | 53–64 cm | 45 cm |
| XL | 64–76 cm | 55 cm |
Between sizes? Always size up. A little room beats a tight fit — especially for layered winter wear.
That's it. Three numbers, thirty seconds, and every product page size chart becomes easy.
